At the official press conference, Dieter Hoeneß had to clarify the situation for the gathered journalists: "At the moment we are still waiting for clearance from the Italian federation. If that hasn’t been presented by midnight, then Diego will unfortunately not be available for selection on Saturday," stated the VfL manager. But then, by 3:30pm, the situation had been cleared. Shortly before the Brazilian midfielder trained with the team for the first time, the necessary paperwork had arrived at the club’s administrative offices, paving the way for Diego to possibly make his debut in the 'Wolves' jersey on Saturday.
The 20 man squad for the first home game of the season is: Benaglio, Hitz, Lenz, Cicero, Dejagah, Dzeko, Grafite, Barzagli, Diego, Johnson, Josué, Kahlenberg, Kjaer, Madlung, Mandzukic, Riether, Schäfer, Ben Khalifa, Ziani and Cigerci. Compared with the squad from the Munich game, Arne Friedrich, Zvjezdan Misimovic and Peter Pekarik have been excluded and replaced by Tolga Cigerci and Nassim Ben Khalifa.
