quote:The "Red Ring of Death" affecting the Xbox 360 has been a nightmare for Microsoft. It has cost lot of money to the company, as it was forced to extend the system's warranty to cover this technical problem, which is rumored to have a failure rate as high as 16%. Most systems experiencing this glitch started to fail months after they were acquired, so it remains to be seen what would be the actual consequences of the RROD. Now, the PlayStation 3, which shipped a year after the Xbox 360, may be the next system to experience a systemic hardware failure. Threads describing an 80010514 error for the PS3 have started to pop up in different forums across the Internet. It seems this error is associated with a malfunction of the Blu-ray Disc drive, which wouldn't come as a surprise considering this next-gen optical disc technology is relatively new and it is still being developed and improved. Interestedly, at the time of this writing the PlayStation.com forums are temporarily closed... We'll have more on this as it develops.
quote:When the BC-less 40GB model was announced some of the Gaf community wondered what would happen to their BC models when they broke. Well the future is now. 1.5 month ago I sent in my 60GB PS3 to repair (Europe), now that I've called with Sony what's taking them so long all I heard on the phone was: "Sorry we don't have any stock of the 60GB left and we don't know when a shipment will arrive to replace your unit. Call back in 2/4 weeks for an update." By that time my PS3 will be gone 2/2.5 months, with no dates as to when I will have one back home. So fellow BC PS3 owners, pray that your unit won't die, because if it does, you may be console less for a couple of months. GTA4? Maybe not for me.

quote:Japanese man in stabbing frenzy A man armed with a knife has run amok in a shopping centre in Japan, killing one person and wounding seven others. The incident happened in the city of Tsuchiura, 50km (31 miles) north-east of Tokyo. The attacker was arrested by police, who said he was wanted in connection with a separate killing last week. Japanese media reported scenes of chaos, as ambulance sirens sounded throughout the mall and bleeding victims tried to escape. Correspondents say violent crime is relatively rare in Japan except for killings by crime syndicates, although there have been concerns about a recent rise in street violence.
quote:Capcom has informed PS3Style that the Playstation 3 version of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition will require a 5GB installation. Just like with the Devil May Cry 4 PS3 version this installation could take up 15-20 minutes of your precious time. Surprisingly, just like Devil May Cry 4, Capcom also requires a 5GB installation that can take up to 15-20 minutes. Only this time, there isn't much to read on-screen, and it's pretty much pointless to sit in front of the TV watching it install so very slowly. Lost Planet on the PS3 should be out by the end of this month.
